Ian Durana
Ian is a graduate from the class of 2021 Registered Massage Therapy program with previous experience primarily in the rehabilitation side of healthcare. He has also explored opportunities in sporting events such as the Vancouver Tennis Open, World Rugby 7’s series, and is currently a part of the Abbotsford Canucks treatment team through Legacies Health Centre.
Prior to his time at Vancouver Career College, Ian had been working in the healthcare field as a rehabilitation assistant in several different settings in the lower mainland, where he learned the importance of different types of therapy by directly assisting his colleagues who practiced in the areas of Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, and Speech-language pathology. Through these opportunities, Ian understood the value of patient centred care and applies that to each of his sessions as a massage practitioner.
Through the school clinic, outreaches, and internship opportunities, Ian has treated a variety of patients, each coming in with a multitude of unique concerns. Combining theoretical knowledge from school and hands on experience, Ian understands how complex the human body is and how every single patient would present differently. A focus for Ian is on making sure he is developing the most effective, personalized treatment plan for each individual, while continuously re-evaluating and looking at things from a holistic approach. Ian acknowledges that relief from the daily rigors of life is unique for each patient and aims to empower them to bring their strengths at the forefront.
Although each treatment is personalized, Ian incorporates various modalities such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint mobilizations, deep tissue, Swedish massage, and hydrotherapy; all the while centering the sessions on bringing awareness to the areas of the body that need it most. Being apart of the healthcare field previously, Ian understands that research is constantly changing and strives to be open-minded and up to date with any information that would benefit his practice.
Ian believes that educating his patients on how to be more cognisant of their bodies and habits is one of the most beneficial aspects to achieving better results. Whether it be soreness from sitting in front of a computer for too long, working out too hard, or just being stressed and needing to relax; Ian is committed to helping you get as much from each session as possible.

Being an RMT allows me to have meaningful one-on-one sessions with clients, providing unwavering support as they embark on their wellness journey. As an active listener and a guide, I consider myself a dedicated partner in their healthcare, striving for visible results through consistent effort.
I completed the Registered Massage Therapy Program at Vancouver Career College in March 2020, gaining a solid foundation in the field. During my training, I had the privilege of working with diverse communities, including BC Women’s Hospital, BC CrossFit Games, Positive Living BC, and City Centre Care Society. I also had valuable opportunities to work at prestigious sports events like World Rugby Sevens and the Odlum Brown Tennis Tournament. These experiences further fueled my passion for different modalities such as deep tissue therapy, neuromuscular techniques, and Dr.Vodder’s techniques of Manual Lymphatic Drainage. I continue to expand my knowledge through research journals, experienced practitioners, and patient feedback. Working with patients who’ve had MVA, prenatal care, chronic pain, and sports injuries has taught me the importance of an ongoing process of learning, unlearning, and relearning.
Teamwork is a concept I highly value, and I cherish the opportunities to learn from both patients and fellow therapists. Recognizing the interconnectedness of all systems in the body, I firmly believe that pain and dysfunction have multiple contributing factors, rather than a single cause. This understanding shapes my approach, which extends beyond treating symptoms alone.
Outside of my professional endeavors, I find solace in leisurely walks and I am currently passionate about pursuing sign language. By acquiring proficiency in different languages and diverse forms of communication, I aspire to offer enhanced accessibility to a broader range of individuals. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to meet and work together with you.
