Ian is a graduate from the class of 2021 Registered Massage Therapy program with previous experience primarily in the rehabilitation side of healthcare. He has also explored opportunities in sporting events such as the Vancouver Tennis Open, World Rugby 7’s series, and was a part of the Abbotsford Canucks treatment team for two seasons.
Prior to his time at Vancouver Career College, Ian had been working in the healthcare field as a rehabilitation assistant in several different settings in the lower mainland, where he learned the importance of different types of therapy by directly assisting his colleagues who practiced in the areas of Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, and Speech-language pathology. Through these opportunities, Ian understood the value of patient centred care and applies that to each of his sessions as a massage practitioner.
Through the school clinic, outreaches, and internship opportunities, Ian has treated a variety of patients, each coming in with a multitude of unique concerns. Combining theoretical knowledge from school and hands on experience, Ian understands how complex the human body is and how every single patient would present differently. A focus for Ian is on making sure he is developing the most effective, personalized treatment plan for each individual, while continuously re-evaluating and looking at things from a holistic approach. Ian acknowledges that relief from the daily rigors of life is unique for each patient and aims to empower them to bring their strengths at the forefront.
Although each treatment is personalized, Ian incorporates various modalities such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint mobilizations, deep tissue, Swedish massage, and hydrotherapy; all the while centering the sessions on bringing awareness to the areas of the body that need it most. Being apart of the healthcare field previously, Ian understands that research is constantly changing and strives to be open-minded and up to date with any information that would benefit his practice.
Ian believes that educating his patients on how to be more cognisant of their bodies and habits is one of the most beneficial aspects to achieving better results. Whether it be soreness from sitting in front of a computer for too long, working out too hard, or just being stressed and needing to relax; Ian is committed to helping you get as much from each session as possible.
